International Women’s Day – What’s it all about?
We are
a non-profit organisation run by volunteers. We organise a
one day event for women to meet, celebrate, learn, and have
fun together. International Women’s Day is on 8 March. We
organise our day on the nearest Saturday each year. The event
usually happens in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton in Sussex
alternately.
What
happens on the day?
The
day is free and open to all women. We generally get approximately
200 women from across West Sussex and beyond. Each year we
have a theme and our activities are chosen accordingly. Every
year we have music, dancing, and singing from around the world
for everyone to join in. There are arts and crafts to try,
workshops to learn new skills and wide range of therapies
for health and well being. Local organisations have stalls
with lots of information about what’s going on in our communities
and the wider world. Children are welcome (boys up to 12 years)
and some special activities are provided for children and
their carers. There are no sales stalls as we make this a
social day rather than commercial. We offer subsidised food
with an international flavour.
Would
you like to get involved?
We
have lots fun planning and organising the event and developing
new skills together. We need more women to join us to bring
new ideas and skills and to share the work of making our day
a great success. There are lots of ways that women can get
involved – you don’t have to make a big time commitment.
